Mountain Empire Chapter Nonpartisan Policy
As organizations exempt from federal taxation under Sec. 501(c)(19) of the Internal Revenue Code, the Mountain Empire Chapter as an affiliate of MOAA, must take care to avoid engaging in partisan political activity. Under IRS rules, we are prohibited from directly participating in, or intervening in, any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for public office. The consequences to an organization that violates the prohibition on partisan political activity can be severe including the loss of its tax exempt status and the imposition of certain excise taxes.
